A bridge replaces one or more missing teeth by joining a false tooth (or teeth) to crowns on the teeth on either side of the gap. It fills the space, helps you chew and speak, and keeps neighbouring teeth from drifting.
What to expect
- The teeth next to the gap are shaped to hold crowns
- An impression or scan is used to make your bridge
- A temporary bridge protects the area while the final one is made
- The bridge is checked, adjusted and cemented in place
Is a bridge right for you
A bridge is a fixed option that does not require surgery. It depends on healthy teeth on either side of the gap. An implant is another option that does not involve the neighbouring teeth. We will explain the pros, cons and costs of each so you can choose.
Caring for your bridge
- Clean under the false tooth every day with floss threaders or interdental brushes
- Keep regular cleanings and check-ups, since the supporting teeth can still decay
- Avoid biting hard objects like ice
