Braces use brackets and wires to move teeth into better positions. They can correct crowding, gaps and bite problems for children, teens and adults, and work for a wide range of cases.
What to expect
- An exam, x-rays and impressions or scans to plan your treatment
- Brackets are attached to the teeth and joined by a wire
- Visits every several weeks to adjust the wires
- Treatment often takes one to three years, depending on your case
- A retainer afterward to keep the teeth in place
Caring for your teeth with braces
- Brush after meals and clean between teeth and around brackets every day. Floss threaders or interdental brushes help
- Avoid hard, sticky and chewy foods that can break brackets
- Keep up cleanings and check-ups, as braces make it easier for plaque to build up
- Wear a mouthguard for sports
Mild soreness after adjustments is normal and usually passes in a few days. We will assess your needs and discuss the options, including clear aligners, before you decide.
