Botox, a purified form of botulinum toxin, relaxes targeted muscles for a period of time. In dentistry it can soften facial lines and ease problems linked to a tight or overactive jaw.
What it is used for
- Lines on the forehead, between the brows and around the eyes
- Clenching and grinding (bruxism) and the muscle tension and headaches that go with them
- Tension and soreness in the jaw muscles
What to expect
- A consultation to discuss your goals, your health history and your medications
- Tiny injections into specific muscles, which take just a few minutes
- Effects usually appear over several days and last a few months, so repeat treatments are needed to maintain the results
- Mild redness, swelling or bruising can occur and usually fades quickly
Who should not have it
It is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding, and some conditions and medications may rule it out. This is a prescription treatment that should only be given by a trained, licensed provider. Ask our team who provides it and whether it is a good fit for you.
