Veneers are thin shells, usually porcelain or composite, bonded to the front of teeth to change their shape, size, colour or alignment. They can transform a smile in a small number of visits.
What they can improve
- Chipped, worn or uneven teeth
- Gaps between teeth
- Stains that do not respond to whitening
- Slightly crooked or misshapen teeth
The process
- A consultation to discuss your goals and whether veneers are the right choice
- Preparing the tooth by removing a thin layer of enamel, which is not reversible
- An impression or scan to design your veneers, with a temporary version in between if needed
- Bonding the final veneers and adjusting your bite
Caring for veneers
- Brush, floss and visit us regularly
- Avoid biting on hard objects such as ice, pens or fingernails
- Tell us if you grind your teeth, since a night guard can protect them
- Veneers can chip or wear and may eventually need replacement
We will also tell you about alternatives, such as bonding and whitening, which may meet your goals with less change to the tooth.
