Contouring, also called enamel reshaping, smooths or slightly shapes teeth by removing a very small amount of enamel. It is a quick way to refine the look of your smile.
What it can help with
- Slightly uneven tooth length
- Small chips or rough edges
- Pointed or overly long tooth corners
- Minor overlap, as part of an overall plan
What to expect
- We examine and take x-rays to be sure there is enough enamel to reshape safely
- We mark and gently reshape the tooth, then polish it
- It is usually fast, and often needs no freezing
Good to know
Contouring is for small changes only. It cannot fix large chips, significant crowding or deep discolouration, and enamel does not grow back. Sometimes it is combined with bonding, whitening or orthodontics. We will tell you honestly whether it is the right option for your goals.
