A check-up is the foundation of good dental health. We look at your teeth, gums, bite, jaw joints and the soft tissues of your mouth, so small problems are found and treated before they become painful or costly.
What we check
- Teeth for decay, cracks, worn areas and old fillings
- Gums for swelling, bleeding and bone loss
- Your bite and jaw joints
- Lips, tongue, cheeks, throat and neck (oral cancer screening)
X-rays
Digital x-rays show what cannot be seen by looking, such as decay between teeth, infection at the root and bone levels. We take them when they are needed, based on your age, risk of decay and dental history, not on a fixed schedule for everyone.
How often
Most people do well with an exam about every six months. If you are prone to cavities or gum disease we may suggest more frequent visits, and if your mouth is very healthy we may be able to space them out.
Good to bring
- Photo ID and your insurance or CDCP details
- A list of your medications
- Recent dental x-rays, if you have them
